On Saturday October 19th, Sagamok hosted its annual Fall Fun Day, where community members are welcomed to discover various booths/activities happening all day. This year, activities included free breakfast served by Chief & Council, moose meat giveaway from the LRE, crafting, photo and colouring booths, vendors, three-legged races, and so much more!
The Sagamok Education Department hosted two booths on site that day. At the first booth, three EHS (Espanola High School) students facilitated several crafts as well as a Scavenger Hunt. Ava Bennett (Grade 10), Vilena Toulouse (Grade 12), and Rayne Peltier (Grade 12) volunteered their time to run the booth, earning community service hours which are a mandatory component of high school graduation. With support from Josephine (Josie) Toulouse, Guidance and Career Coach for Secondary School students, Ava, Vilena and Rayne assisted children and family members sharing arts and crafts projects; one project being a mason jar lantern. The jar was decorated on the outside with colourful fall leaves, acorns, ferns and/or any found natural items, adhered with mod podge. Once dried, the final product was a beautiful, filtered lantern to place a tea light/candle inside.
The second booth on site at the Fall Fun Day was operated by the Life-Long Learning Centre. All Guidance and Career Coach Staff participated in the event. The Centre offered a candy apple giveway, and a chance for community members to meet staff and become more familiar with the services available to Sagamok citizens through the new Life-Long Learning Centre, a sector of Sagamok Education that is committed to safe and supported learning journeys no matter where you find yourself on that journey. Community Members entered their names in a draw for a chance to win a brand-new laptop and software prize package, offered by the Life-Long Learning Centre! Congratulations, Natasha Southwind, the winner of the prize package! Staff gave away 300 candy apples and 300 Life-Long Learning Centre Information Packages to community members.
It was a successful day of community outreach and fun activities shared together.
